The field of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) is revolutionizing medicine. These cutting-edge biological treatments, based on cells, tissues, and genes, hold immense promise for curing diseases in ways traditional medicines couldn’t. ATMPs offer one-time treatments with lasting effects. For some cancer patients who’ve exhausted other options, they provide hope for long-term survival. Additionally, ATMPs address hereditary diseases where current treatments fall short.
Professor and Dekan Matti Sallberg at Karolinska Institutet shares insights on Stockholm’s ATMP advancements. “We really are taking advantage of the discoveries made in basic science, and now translating them in a quite smooth way into human use. So I think within the next ten years, we’re going to see an explosion of ATMPs coming to the benefit of patients.,” he emphasizes.
