Successful translation using the Karolinska ATMP Center

The Karolinska ATMP Center is a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital, offering research, clinical trials, drug manufacturing, and patient treatment. Together, they are among the leaders in research, manufacturing, and treatment with Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) in Europe.

In Flemingsberg, the collaboration on cell and gene therapies has a long tradition. The Unit for Cell Therapy and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation (CAST) was established in 1975, and since then, significant advancements have been made in research and development of advanced medicines in the ATMP field.

The Karolinska ATMP Center was founded in 2023 as a collaboration between Karolinska Institutet (KI) and the hospital. Its aim is to coordinate existing operations to promote integration across the four main areas. Located in Huddinge, Flemingsberg, its physical presence enables smoother collaboration and development.

Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) have the potential to treat and cure diseases in ways not possible with traditional drugs and treatments. Thanks to the Karolinska ATMP Center, we can further advance cell, gene, and tissue therapies.
